Warta run of State Cup comes to an end;

Warta could not continue their run in Illinois State Cup, as they fall in quarterfinals to Morelia Chicago.

The home team displayed a big dominance in the game of first half but failed to score a goal on multiple occasions and exited their State Cup run after penalty set the match for visiting Morelia late in the second half.

Warta had full control of the match in the first 30 minutes of game during which Morelia defended and were unable to create any danger at Wartas’ half.

First chance came in the 7th minute but the shot went wide from Joel Salmeron and few minutes later Will Butler saw his shot go just wide.

Best chance came in the 19th minute when Samir Ghiasi was in perfect position to put Warta ahead but his shot was saved onto a corner kick by Morelia keeper.

Warta dominated for more than half an hour before Morelias first chance which was saved by Rodolfo Gonzalez.  Warta had the momentum for most part of the match but failed to finish off their chances which proved to be a huge bite back in the second half of the match.

Morelia took the lead in the 65th minute scoring a penalty kick after Warta keeper Gonzalez took down one of the Morelias forward.  Harsh call by the officials as no contact was made on the challenge and Morelia was up one goal to none.

Minutes later the visitors scored their second on quick counter attack after officials failed to make the right call once again and Warta was down two goals to none in the 71st minute.

Warta pulled one back late in the game as Alan Salmeron scored in the 84th minute, but despite constant pressure there was not enough time for an equalizer and Wartas’ run as the defending State Champions came to an end.

Great performance by Warta was unrewarded with goals and it cost them the game, which they should have won.

Morelia went thru to face Gazelle SC of the NSL in semifinals as RWB Adria take on AAC Eagles in the other semifinal match.
