Warta clinch the
Tony Dallas Cup
2018;
Three Damian goals,
clinch the win over
Gazelle to give
Warta their first
State Cup trophy.
Wheeling High School
was the setting as
CKS Warta got their
hands on their first
STATE CUP title,
running out 3:1
winners over Gazelle
SC in the final.
This group of
players, are leaving
an indelible mark on
their soccer
history.
Daniel Damian was
the star of the
final,
coming off
the bench with a
scoreless tie in
second half to net a
hat-trick.
Damian opened the
scoring in the 47th
minute for Warta
from the
penalty
kick to give his
side a well deserved
goal.
The game began at a
stuttering pace,
with the respect
between the two
sides all too
evident.
CKS
Warta were looking
to play out from the
back, while Gazelle
went for a more
direct approach,
moving the ball to
their front men with
a long ball
passing.
Warta defense was
well organized and
did not allow any
chances for the
first half hour of
play.
Warta on
the other end came
really close in the
13th minute as a
great opportunity
was saved on Luis Adame rebound shot.
Two minutes later
Warta hit the side
netting as they were
better side in the
opening half.
Daniel Damian came
in at halftime in
replace of Adame and
it took just two
minutes for Warta to
open the scoring as
it came from the
penalty spot after
Warta player was
brought down inside
the box.
Damian himself took
the honors as he
sent the keeper
other way giving
Warta the lead.
Damian got his
second to give Warta
a 2:0 lead in the
92nd minute as a
miscue by Gazelle
keeper and a
defender allowed
Damian to break thru
and send the
ball
into an empty net.
Gazelle pulled
one back in the 95th
minute but Damian
sealed the win with
a stunning goal from
distance in the last
minute off added
time to
give Warta
their first State
Cup trophy.
Rodolfo Gonzalez
made a superb save
in the second half,
to deny a great
effort as the ball
was going into the
upper corner but
Gonzalez stretched
out fully
to send
the ball
just wide
of the target.
It was a great
performance by Warta
team as they not won
just the State Cup
but the Cup named
after their late
coach Tony Dallas
who passed away in
April of 2017
giving
the team a more
special motivation
to win the trophy.
